Blue Beach (Navy name)
Bathroom at #2 and another one out on the main road before it turns to gravel
No sand, only sharp rocks
The water is usually crystal clear and beautiful.
La Chiva is a very long southside beach accessed off Route 997. Enter the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge at Garcia Gate and drive straight until the road changes to gravel, then drive some more. Eventually, the road will fork to the right and come up over a rise where you will see the water and the numbered signs on the right, starting with #1. These are entrance points for parking and access to the beaches. Find one that suits you and enjoy.
Note: before July ’19, this entrance was #3.
Not really a beach, #1 is a very rocky shoreline that overlooks the Caribbean Sea, Isla Chiva (the cayo in the bay) and the large expanse of Playa La Chiva. It’s really only suitable for fishing (if you can keep your hook out of the rocks). The views of the Cayo and La Chiva’s sandy beaches are beautiful though.
There is no shade here so plan accordingly.
